Go to: C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Vertcoin
Delete the current wallet.dat fileand replace it with your backup wallet.dat file. Restart it and it should load the wallet with your backed up coins.
Ive tried that , problem is it would restart synchronizing with the blockchain again. And once it’s done still no coins!
Any transactions out of your wallet?
One transaction out of the wallet worked , however there is a transaction that states "unconfirmed". what does that mean?
Sorry to jump in here, but I also need help restoring my wallet and feel it would just clutter the board with a whole new topic.
The drive it was installed on got corrupted and I am unable to restore anything. I have the wallets address and password information, but using the Vertcoin Core Wallet, I don't see a way to manually input the wallet address, which I assume I would need to do in order to access it.
Did you back up the wallet?
Backup the wallet? Negative. Is that a necessary step? I thought everything was supposed to constantly be stored on the block chain. I am still very new to all of this though, so my understanding could definitely be incorrect. I thought the only information I would need was the wallet address and the password to access the wallet. Is that not correct?
I am pretty sure you are boned if you didnt get the privkey and you dont have a backup of the wallet.dat
I'm in the same situation. hopefully we can get it resolved.
what s/he said
Ok so I made 2 transactions to the core wallet. Then I back it up using a DAT file. A few weeks later my hard drive goes bad but I manage to recover everything (now I currently have all the previous files and documents on the old drive). I had to install a new hardrive and fix my laptop since then. Now I installed the current version of the core wallet and tried to use the old back up file but it won’t load my old wallet and can’t get access to all my VTC on it.
Make sure your backupwallet.dat is renamed to wallet.dat when you copy it to C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Vertcoin.
Look up the public addresses and make sure they aren't empty, then in core go to File➙ReceivingAddresses and see if they're listed.
When you do that tell us what you found.
So, I managed to have my wallet open and show both original transactions. One with a working receiving address, however the other transaction is faded and says "incomplete". not sure what that means but the second transaction has a different receiving address originally. Maybe the wallet backup doesn't include that other address? it shows the full amount of coins of the second transaction but i can't use those coins or send them, so that's weird.
Edit: I have the receiving address for the second transaction, however I can't use those coins.
Ok, so the first transaction is good?
And the second transaction is where the problem is now, right?
View the incomplete transaction in the block explorer (In the transactions tab on core RightClick➙copytransactionid), does it show what the wallet shows?
What about the addresses?
yes, the transaction ID shows the same receiving address in the wallet. why is it unconfirmed?
Does the explorer say unconfirmed or confirmed in the bottom right corner?
it says not in memory pool / unconfirmed.
Can you still help?
What is your issue?
If the other comment is right, and he/she does not accept your offered payment; you should donate to the vertcoin exchange fund!
I still need help resolving the issue.
Could you provide more details? Im afraid we cant help much until we know what the exact issues are.
I have an Update!! Can you give me a call ?
