I definitely love this show

level 1

I'm on episode 4. Love this show. Aidy Bryant is brilliant. This is real life shit.

Finished watching. Fran is officially my favorite character in this series. Even Aidy Bryant can't make me like Annie in the 6th ep (and I LOVE Aidy).

level 1

I’m on episode 3, but I HOPE she doesn’t end up with Lamar’s handsome brother. That’s how it seems to be going and it would be some insanely cliche and unbelievable that I would ruin the show for me.

level 2

She's unhealthy, doesn't exercise but ends up with a hot, fit exotic guy...

yeah, that's the Lena Dunham BS fanatsy they keep selling fat girls

level 3

Wow. You do know fat chicks can land hot dudes too right? And also they grew up together so they probabaly had a connection deeper than just looks. Shocking I know, fat girls have personalities too.

level 3

Exactly! Thank you. If he was less attractive and more similar to her in looks then it would be fine. It also feeds to the stereotype that black guys like fat white women. I doubt they would’ve hired a fit, tall guy like Chris Hemsworth to hook up with her if her roommate were white, because the audience would see it as less realistic.

level 2

Except that he does have a bit in common with Lindy's real life husband.

level 3

No he doesn’t. Her real life husband is good looking, but he’s not super fit, tall and super handsome. That’s like putting Idris Elba with this character, it’s just not realistic. When he said he’s always had a crush on her, I cringed inside. It’s hollywood. Ryan is actually very realistic.

level 4

He's not a chef, but he's a different kind of artistic person (musician) and his mother is Nigerian, so there's a similarity there. Also I believe Lindy and her husband met through his sister, who is a writer friend of Lindy's.

level 1

How old do you think Annie and her roommate are?

level 2

I’d guess around 32 years old.

level 1

I liked it for the most part, but I reeeaaallly hate Ryan and I feel like the show is gonna go with the cliche "lovable loser" route with him. I mean, I totally get how true to life the show is and how guys like him trap insecure women who are trying to find themselves, like Annie. But the character was just so revolting it made Annie seem like a complete dumbass how she kept giving him sex and affection. Even Ruthie (a character who had a rock-bottom opinion of Annie) thought he was too disgusting for her.

I just want to slap some sense into her. But on the other hand, I also understand the crippling fear that you are not enough, and if you dump this guy then you will be forever alone.

I think for all her posturing (starting ep 5 soon) she is still not comfortable with herself yet.

level 2

I hate his character so much that it makes the show unenjoyable. He just won't go away.

I really hope that the show doesn't make Annie "fix" him. He needs to learn and grow on his own, and making a woman do that for him isn't sending a good message. It's a shame because the rest of the show is so uplifting and powerful.

level 3

I have the same hopes. I loved the show but cringed at all the Ryan storylines and was appalled by how she kept going back. I guess that’s more aligned with reality, it’s hard to just cut people off... but still. I liked her roommates brother sooo much better! They are such a good fit

level 1

Who was the little girl trying to escape/sneak bedroom at night? And later went to pool? Was it little Annie?

level 2

Yes. The episode was about how baby Annie grew up to be Pool Party Annie.

Just finished binge-watching the the entire thing! She's amazing. The show's amazing. I couldn't help but smile the whole time. I felt like we were living the same life. I've never connected to a show so much. It truly made me feel happy and so good about myself.

level 1

Just binge watched the entire show and I'm absolutely in love with it. I need a season two!!!

level 1

Interesting the topics on the show but yet you see the cover image for the show on here and she's super photoshopped.

level 1

Does Shrill have a Reddit yet? Someone jump on that!

Also it's sad that al the wardrobe is custom, I want to buy so many of these looks!
