I guess the writers have not heard of the concept "need to know." Lets just scream our most sensitive info across the room. And by all means make sure the security cam feed is at shoulder height. Jeez, the old telco box on my house got remounted to the upper second floor before I even moved in. If someone wanted to disrupt the alarm, they were going to have to bring their own ladder. Heck, the outside meter box was locked and had a sensor to trip the alarm if opened to cut power. I find it hard to watch a Spy show where my personal tradecraft at home is better.

The series took the worst parts of 24: unnecessary shaky cam. It's bloody 2019 - everybody despises it, but basic cable is that stupid.

Another feature is long dull moments filled with that shaky cam. In 24 the goal was to fill the gaps within the hour when nothing happens. In this series one does not have to do it.

The interior design is also copied mindlessly, without understanding.

The series is so out of place and out of time. No mention about any Chinese threat to the country, all enemy combatants hilariously out of time context.

I do not think I am going to finish episode 2.

Calling it now, Anna Cruz is the mole.

Just to clarify, I sent this a few minutes before she got the call in the hospital room. That was even worse than when Carrie outed Brody in season 2. Counterpart this ain't.

If anyone is interested, I created a subreddit for the show.

  • The cast is really great imho.

  • The overall story seemed really cool until the last few minutes/key scenes. Like other posters, I am also thinking they are going for the procedural aspect.

  • The cleverness of it all... it seems ok-ish. Unfortunately not on the level of Limitless or Elementary, but pretty up there with the angles and real layers behind the events.

Overall, I don't know... the last few minutes kind of turned the whole spycraft angle into a meh inter-agency cooperation ... like Whiskey Cavalier just did so it'll be a FBI/CIA thing except with all the sleepers and whatnot, it'll be a detective thing version 23874. Or they manage to spin it a little bit differently, which I would very much like.

Plot sounds a bit shit.

Do we hate this show?

I hate that everyone talks in cliches. Plus this is the child of Blindspot and Blacklist.

I like the cast. Especially Kelli Garner. Haven't seen her in awhile.

level 2

I hate the camera guy, those pointless close-ups... just leave her face alone man.

level 3

i decide to stop watching these series., camera shake isn't for me.

  • Why is Erica still alive? I thought treason was punishable by death in the US.

  • The fact that she kept the reason why she turned those names in a secret and is generally uncooperative since her arrest answers my initial confusion on why they're giving her the Reddington treatment.

  • I didn't anticipate she'd be a bit shady in her cooperation with the FBI, which further adds to the tension between both parties.

level 2

The actual elements of treason are quite difficult to actually prove. She probably would have actually been charged with a different crime. You know of any other case where a person was tried in a death penalty crime been convicted after a trial, gone through the appeals process(assuming she did) and been executed in a 3 year time period? One reason you rarely see people get put to death in espionage cases is that the government basically agrees to forgo the death penalty in exchange for the person telling them all they know.

level 2

As a practical matter, the US doesn't execute traitors anymore. Supermax is like death though.

level 3

I find it annoying that they couldn't even look up that Florence ADX does NOT have female inmates. She would have been put in either a Maximum Security or a Black Site.

I honestly have no idea why this show has such a "low" rating. It really wasn't that bad. I've seen a *lot* worse shows than this. I'll be checking the next episode for sure and see where this show is going.

The escape moment was actually quite good. Quite original.

level 2

The lead apron, thumbs up. The suddenly almost nonexistent security, big thumbs down. I’ll be back for another look next week.

level 1

Premiere wasn't terrible. I'm interested to see if she'll embrace the criminal side or the agent side while tracking down the "foreign agents".

Twenty bucks says Erica Shepherd expected the blackmail call, faked the deaths of the people she had to 'sacrifice' and is working in extra-special deep cover to finally get a crack at Tal. Keaton's fiancée is still out there with the rest of them, playing the game.

Shepherd is running this.

Because everyone loves a good reveal cake.

level 2

I really like this theory but the only problem is that she isn't the one that kills them, so how can she fake the deaths? Surely Mikhail Tal (the terrorist) would be the one killing them and making sure they are dead.

I was hoping for convoluted amounts of preparation and some collateral damage. With a team standing by, anticipating the hit, maybe some of them got through the cracks.

But yeah, I see what you mean.

Maybe only the fiancée is still alive, living under a different identity and will make a suprise appearance in the season finale. That or Tal has kept her alive and threatens Keaton like he did with Shepherd to go full circle. I feel like we've seen too much of her for her not to be a bigger part of the story.

This is going to get cancelled

Just watched the trailer from about a month ago, then the pilot and straight off the bat totally changed how her story is portrayed and how she gets arrested. Normally it’s only totally different if the trailer is many months old.

Broadcast channels must die. I have seen a lot of MC 50-60 series and all of them at least started engagingly. This one even starts as a lackluster...

The more I watch the more cliched and boring this series look like. You take an interesting premise and you destroy it for identity politics, for mild rating, for stupid restrictions on creative talent.
