2019 Survivor Fallen Angel Profiles: All-Stars

Welcome to the 2019 Survivor Fallen Angel Profile series!

In these threads, we encourage in-depth discussion about the "fallen angels" throughout Survivor history, counting down from the most recent to the original. In this context, a fallen angel is the last player eliminated prior to Final Tribal Council.

What allowed these players to make it to the end game? What are the reasons they fell short? Were they legit threats or coattail riders? How close were they to winning? Who would they have won or lost against had they made it to Final Tribal Council? How was their gameplay, narrative, story, edit, competition, and former or later seasons (if applicable)? What's their Survivor legacy? Are they overrated or underrated as a player and a character? Will they ever return?

These threads are meant for in-depth discussion, not low-effort content. We encourage people to post their detailed thoughts after reflecting on these fallen angels and their paths through the game.

Today's topic: Survivor: All-Stars fallen angel Jenna Lewis.

  • Method of Elimination: Voted out at F3

  • Individual Immunities won: 0/7

  • Tribal Councils Attended: 9/14

  • Votes Against: 4

  • Correct Votes: 8/9

Not the worst ending she’s ever had recorded

Jenna in ASS gets a tough rap in the fan community but her game was actually really good and almost certainly the most improved out of all the returnees when compared to their original runs. Alongside players who burned most of the jury, she finished one challenge from the million dollars (though her true undoing was probably Rob's play at the Tom vote).

The fact that somebody from Pagong who lost the first time because they were unwilling to consider planning a vote came back and survived 38 days with a real chance to win is truly incredible. She lost the first two immunity challenges on a six-person tribe but managed to scramble her way back into power, lying through her teeth and playing far more viciously than Richard ever had to.

Yes, Jenna targeted the winners. But she wasn't the only one to do that or who wanted to do that, just the one chosen to voice it first in the episodes. And just because it wasn't what most fans wanted to see from the season doesn't mean it wasn't the right play for Jenna (and the other less notable players looking to maximise their own chances at a deep run). Most of all, it was the least interesting thing about her on this season even if it is the most talked about.

I love this woman. Not only is she a game-changer (by introducing the idea of eliminating the winners first in an all-star season), but she also played a very strong social and strategic game. She basically was never in danger until the F3, and if she had won the final immunity she had a good chance IMO of winning the game, against either Rob or Amber. Also, Saboga is my favorite of the three starting tribes.

(by introducing the idea of eliminating the winners first in an all-star season)

She certainly wasn't the only one coming into All-Stars with the idea, but she narrated it to the audience at home, plus implemented it well to further her own game.

To add to this, Jenna was one of the people for whom going after the winners immediately was a great strategy. Lex and Kathy had a lot to lose playing that way because they were the next biggest threats once the winners and Cesternino were gone. Jenna Lewis, though? She always had a bigger target lined up before her and I think she very well could have taken it all the way if it wasn't for the endgame Chapera complacency.

Her numbers are actually really impressive, too! She’s got her flaws, but overall her game was not bad by any means!

One of the most underrated. Jenna was one of the original people to learn strategy and was the most devious pagong member in borneo. She proved this in the Ramona boot. She brought this to all stars also. She deserved her spot in this season and would have been a great winner

level 1

Probably the most underrated fallen angel.

I'm a big fan of Jenna but I feel Scout is probably the most underrated

I think time has certainly improved her reputation. Probably the best performance a returning Borneo player has had, even more than Gervase making it a day further in Blood vs Water

level 1

I think a third run would complete her growth as a player story and act as a metaphor for the show as a whole

Two days ago the Fallen Angel was Ian Rosenberger, my favorite character of all time from my favorite season ever. In sharp contrast, we get Jenna Lewis, one of my least favorite characters of all time from my least favorite season ever.

Jenna did play a solid game here in All Stars. I don't think it's that impressive given that in the post-merge she essentially played the same game she did in Borneo, just on the other side of the numbers, but she clearly played better here than in her first appearance and she deserves some credit for that. She has a very good shot in the end (against Rob she gets Lex/Alicia/Tom for sure and I imagine she picks up one of Rupert or Shii Ann, while against Amber it's the same but replace Shii Ann with Kathy). Good on her for seriously analyzing her mistakes and being a much better player.

My problem with her as a character is that she contributes nothing positive. I recognize that she was not the only one who believed the 'fuck the winners' agenda, but on screen she is the main proponent of it and that starts All-Stars on a super negative tone that it never really recovers from. She also doesn't get enough blame for not helping the Chapera 2.0/Mogo Mogo 3.0 domination. Those are two of the worst tribes ever, and while she doesn't contribute to their awfulness, she certainly doesn't make those tribes better. She's an active nothing as a character from the Saboga absorption to the endgame, and when she does get content in the Saboga portion she is a seriously awful character who is the face of one of All-Stars' worst storylines. She's not the biggest reason All-Stars sucks (that honor goes to Rob 2.0, my personal 673/673), but she does not help things at all.

level 2

he also doesn't get enough blame for not helping the Chapera 2.0/Mogo Mogo 3.0 domination.

I blame Alicia and Big Tom way way WAY more tbh because at least Jenna Lewis and Rupert had no options and managed to actually have Romber's loyalty, due to the DVD commentary confirming that Jenna Lewis working Amber HARD on the new Chapera.

Alicia really should've known better. All evidence points to Alicia knowing that she was on the bottom of Chapera but choosing not to do anything because she hated Shii-Ann thaaaaaat much. Granted, Shii-Ann is Shii-Ann, but Alicia on both her seasons struck me as somebody who thought that she was smarter than she actually was and hence never bothered to make "moves" until it was basically too late for her. Even Rob Cesternino says on TEOS that Alicia and Sue were on the bottom on Chapera 1.0, until Amber lobbied BR to switch the vote to Cesternino. And Sue herself said in exit-interviews that due to the tension between Big Tom and Alicia/Sue, Alicia REALLY should've known that she was on the bottom of Chapera.

However, what was Alicia's response? Be haughty and dismissive of Mogo Mogo, calling Shii-Ann useless and relishing the pagonging... only to act surprised when she was the first to be knocked off.

Jeez, I actually kinda love how depressing All Stars is, so I appreciate Rob and Jenna. I wish Game Changers went down that some route.

She didn't play a bad game, but I can't stand her as a character. Of course everyone wants to win, but there was a viciousness in her that I couldn't get behind. She was mean and bitter and a far cry from the energiser bunny we saw in season 1.

How is cydney and cirie better then tina in S2 when tina won and they didn't.

level 3

And how is Matty a 2/10 when he was one firemaking challenge away from winning?

By that logic, Bob is a better player than Rob C and Cirie.

At this point, I’m 99% sure they are trolling. Just giving them a downvote and moving on.
