Of course he makes it a racist thing

I was so confused when he started bringing up race... Like wtf??

level 2

My first thought when I saw this thread was, how can he turn this into a race issue? He still managed to get it done. I'll never like Smith.

I know he gets paid for “hot takes” and I agree that an ownership stake seems ridiculous, but bringing up the Rooney rule whilst talking about the team that hired the NFL’s first African American coach is way off base.

level 2

Smith gets paid to stir shit, I doubt he actually thinks this. I’d love to talk to him when the camera isn’t running, he seems like an intelligent dude. Problem being ESPN needs him to be the controversial dipshit dude, as that’s who draws views for that terrible show.

level 3

He came to McGuire Air Force Base a few years ago with skip Bayless and they did a show and when the cameras weren't on they send a few people for a quick meet and greet and or handshake.

Atleast on that day from my perspective Steven A is still the same goondick he portrays on TV but just not as intense of course. I'm a black man and he's still seemed like a racist piece of shit as I saw him vigorously shake and talk to us with smiles while just giving white guys a quick handshake and a sneer.

Surprisingly Skip Bayless seemed like he was a nice dude off camera as you can tell he was genuinely appreciative of the military but it's still shitty you go on TV and act like a fake moron.

This was my experience anyways hope it shines some light for you.

level 4

I feel like at an event like that you still are gonna get a bit of the act though.

Skip is the one I’d imagine is permanently a shithead though so that’s surprising. Honestly though those two dudes both have the act down and it’s made them some serious money

I hate this motherfucker lol

Here's the thing, it's none of your business whether or not they give him ownership stake. Period. They can give him a lifetime supply of PF Chang and it's none of ur business. This is bigger than just getting Gruden as a coach. They want him to be the face of the franchise when they transition to Vegas and need asses in seats.

“I don’t like talking about my colleagues”......

.....but let me go ahead and talk about my colleagues.

Edit: finished video. Don’t like Steven A but I agree with the ownership part. The Raiders are reportedly offering him 10M and some ownership. If he is the next coach he needs to deliver multiple playoff appearances and a Super Bowl visit. The Raiders are investing a ton in him and if it doesn’t work out it can severely handicap this franchise.

level 2

I'm wondering if this is another Mark Davis signature move, because they can't give Chucky that without 3/4ths of the other owners voting to allow it. On a side note I like the similarities with Al being the coach that became the owner.

level 2

There is no ownership.

level 1

He gonna be real mad when they win a ring.

level 1

Please help me out because I have trouble understanding, why is it such a big deal that MD would be giving Gruden part ownership? What does that mean?

Nothing. It’s marks money and completely separate from salary cap. No clue why people care. I’ve also heard this rumor contested too. I don’t really believe it.

level 2

Aside from a potentially complicated contract/ league rules and the exact boundaries of his authority as a 'part-owner', nothing. Personally I don't think his value rises to that particular level, but it's not my team. And there are already multiple people that own pieces of the Raiders.

So in the case that he's a terrible coach down the line (which I doubt), how you gonna fire a co-owner? That's the big deal

level 3

Not at all. Legally he would have no say in his contract. The fact that he could get a stake (if it’s even true, we’re talking about something in the range of 0,5 to 2% MAX) doesn’t mean that stake has legal say in decision making. Still a minority stakeholder.

Or they’ll draw up a contract with a stipulation that forces a sell in case of firing.

I think MD wants to hitch his wagon to a knowledgeable "football guy" for the long term. I can see Gruden transitioning from coach to a GM or executive role down the line. I mean you could do worse.

I definitely think this is a message to McKenzie too. I also defend Grudens Tampa tenure. Goat defense retired, didn’t have a first or second for two straight years and rocky ownership at the time. Never had a chance to rebuild.

I don’t even care what he’s saying. This man is an attention whore, god he’s irritating. Acting and shit. Why the fuck are you shouting.

level 2

I didn’t even watch it but I can guarantee he’s making this a racial issue talking about the Rooney rule.
