Can anyone else also confirm im not crazy. When the Harpoons are being shot at General Mayhems ship at one point she flips one and flings it directly back. Considering the Mad Max Inspired setting am I insane in thinking this is a reference to fist of the north star?. It's a technique Kenshiro uses on his opponents when they fire crossbow bolts at him.

Also 'Marvel not returning our calls' is incredibel if you know anythign about LEGO's relationship with MARVEL outside of sets

WB Movie's relationship with Disney, more like. Marvel has a perfectly fine relationship with Lego (unless I've missed something), and have no problem with WB making videogames for them, but they practically refuse to have anything to do with WB movies.

level 3

Yeah but disney are reallllllllly touchy about not having any of their properties next to WB properties

Nearly as good as the first movie. I need to do some collecting of thoughts and thinking about the movie a bit more because the thing is the first movie was one giant metaphor. However this one is a bunch of smaller metaphors that tie toegther. I think the many tiny messages it talks about are a lot more poignant than the one in the first one. Just a couple of things i'ma point out:

- 'Everything's not awesome, that's an unrealisitc expectation' Damn. In a 'kid's' movie that's pretty heavy

- The movie doesn't have a bad guy. Rex is the 'villain' but unlike most other main characters he doesn't represent someone in the real world. Rather he is an ideollogy of toughening up. I think that's beautiful

- Almost every plot point is fantastically and cleverly foreshadowed. e.g. Finn telling bianca to go away because he was in c omplicated time travel story.

- So emmet gave the heart saying it can be whatever you want it to be. Bianca became inspired by this (As General Mayhem points out) and takes it apart to become Queen whateva wa'nabi who cna be whatever you want it to be. Finn sees this disregard for what he gave her as an act of hatred rather than apreciation making his sister the antagonist in his mind. Meanwhile bianca never antagonised finn so continued to long to play with him. Knowing fully well that she was that antagonist in his mind she tries to prove that wrong ('not evil'). Basically look at this from bianca and finn's point of view and you'll see even more

- The last credits song is actually hillarious

- Wyldstyle asking Emmet to 'grow up a bit. just for me' breaks my heart. Imagine telling someone you care about to change who they are 'just for you'

- Emmet's disbelief of who Wyldstyle really was is really poignant

Overall. This movie has much better messages HOWEVER. I totally understand why people are giving it lower ratings. I mean you have to do a lot of focusing and thinking to figure these stuff out. I mean i'm barely scratching the surface. But yeah, you have to put some effort into approaching this movie from different angles and then you find newfound appreciation of it. I mean i wasn;t even sure i wanted to go watch this but i ahve never wanted more to go and watch a movie again (Not even Infintiy war) While i may want to re-watch other movies just for the fun I feel that rewatchign this movie with knowledge of the plot twists will make it mcuh mroe cohesive

(On another note the first 15 minutes or so were quite limp)

Tiffany Hadish voice is so annoying it almost pulled me out of the movie. But it ended nicely.

Just got out of it. Enjoyable, but definitely not on the level of the first one. The last 20 or so minutes really seemed to drag, kind of like it was added pretty late in production. Not necessarily bad, but not as good as the rest of the movie.

level 1

Wanted a Bruce Springsteen reference; Radiohead will suffice.

level 1

I just saw the movie 2 hours ago and I have a few quick thoughts. I think the story of the first Lego movie was better than The Lego Movie 2 because it had a bit more suspense and we didn't know the twist that the movie was just a kid playing with Lego. The humor in this movie seems like it was geared towards older adults with all the references to older movies and music as in my theatre, the only people laughing were adults. Overall, I think the rest of the movie was fine.

Overall, I'd give it a 7/10.

level 1

I just saw the movie, and I have to say that while this movie didn't have as great of a plot as the first one, it took time to focus on Emmet, which was really neat. The songs were surprisingly good, as well.

Two plot details I'd like to talk about are Lord Business and Rex.

Lord Business, being the Dad IRL, leaving as soon as the kids were fighting and returning as soon as they calmed down seemed like such a Dad thing to do!

I was also blown away by how Rex was Future Emmet. I heard the brother earlier talking about a "time-travel plot", but I thought he was talking about some other set he was playing with at the time. I have to say, it's one of the few plot twists of all movies I've seen that have actually surprised me!

level 1

A worthy sequel. Doesn't land with the same punch the first movie did but few films can really do that. Lots of fun gags and a "catchy" soundtrack as well. My only nitpick was that the characters from the last film didn't have much to do in this one and they didn't get as much focus as I would have liked. Bad Cop/Scribble Cop had like one line (sounded more like a grunt) and then vanished from the movie, and he was my favorite character.

I liked the movie. Not as good as the first but hey, its hard to beat that.

The jokes were great. I think the couple twists did not hit. Like who Rex was, a bit too obvious imo.

But it's a solid movie and I think it has so many jokes that I just have missed out half of them.

Only issue I have is the plot seemed aimed at a younger audience, at least more so than the first. But the jokes are aimed at an older audience. So... Not sure how that would work.

Part way through, I was getting worried that this would not even live up (or even get close) to the original. I'm glad I was wrong! That was pretty awesome.

Quick question - was Bianca played by the same actress? I saw that Finn was and was pretty excited.

level 2

The girl who played Bianca was just in Florida Project as the main kid Mooney. I think the toddler's voice in the first was someone from production or their kid but can't remember for sure. It's less relevant for consistency than keeping Finn the same though. I gotta give them props for hiring back the same kid 5 years later when he's far less cute.

level 1

This was a damn good sequel full of laughs and heart. I'll admit, I wish this was more of a musical, since the music is pretty catchy.

Anything that puts females in a positive light is sjw nonsense apparently

I will admit the line about “the helpless male was the leader” was very unnecessary, but everything else about that dudes comment was wrong

Those people have like a huuuge house with a incredibly big, spacious cellar. What I learned from the movie is, that LEGO is only for rich people.

level 2

that home is the type of abode hollywood executives think working class people live. I mean, it is only the ONE home, isn't it?

Definitely worth seeing in theaters. Loved the first and loved this one as well. The songs are catchy and had me smiling all throughout

Went in with zero hope and expectations. Came out loving it more than the first.

Bonus points for it being the first movie to keep my 5yo daughter's attention throughout.
